Frosty, the Abominable Snow Man, Young Jeezy, and any other snow men you can think of are now on notice. We are officially beefing. Don’t come around me singing about magic hats or running traps. The nation’s capital was hit by two significant snow storms in less than one week proving that lightning may not strike twice, but blizzards apparently do.
Normally a little bad weather wouldn’t have even been on my radar. but I was in town to perform at Canibus’ Melatonin Magik album release party.
I’ve had more than my fair share of cancellations but this is a new scenario. Everyone from the venue (Jammin Java) to the label (War Lab Records) and the promoters (BetaRaz Entertainment) wanted this show to happen. F.a.T, my fellow B.A.S.E. Inc member, even had the brilliant idea to broadcast our rehearsal and the show live on the War Lab Records fan forum. The show was set to be “nothing less than epic” as the up and coming label’s site says. It was just snow after all. I learned to drive in bad weather. My first time behind the wheel without supervision was in the snow. No big deal right?

Wrong! The initial wave of the white stuff started around 9:30AM Friday the 5th. It kept going for the next 30 hours dumping more than 30 inches of snow on the DMV (District, Maryland, & Virginia) area. We had almost 72 hours to thaw out so I was still optimistic that the show would go on. The promoter actually called me Monday morning to reassure me. I ventured out of the house I grew up in and went to rehearsal and left feeling really excited about everything. However, the news of a second storm set to start right around our scheduled soundcheck dampened my mood. The estimated 6 to 20 more inches of snow depending on the area would surely keep the faithful fans and fearless under card, which included my group B.A.S.E. Inc, K-Beta (Inner Loop Records) & Sketch, Cause, DJ RBI, and others from making it happen. The show is postponed for now and Canibus has since rerouted and will finish his east coast tour in New Haven, CT on February 14, 2010.
I got to spend some time with friends and family not to mention help my mom and her neighbors shovel so I wouldn’t say I’m bitter. This is not a threat either, but it’s just probably a little too soon to leave me alone with any characters from a winter wonder land. And if you live in the Tampa Bay area, stop saying it’s cold outside. You don’t know what cold is.
